Tales from Crete | 1

Welcome to my blog.

The rain is drumming on the roof and outside it's pouring down - Well, it's not that unusual when you live in Denmark. But then fortunately you can sit back and think about the fact that there are now only 4 days until you are on the plane to Crete again. Yes, and then the keyboard went into reverse lock or it was just me that got stuck. There are a lot of stories and tales I would like to share with you, so it's just a matter of figuring out where to start.

The first time I set foot on Cretan soil was in September 2005. I don't know if it was actually a coincidence that it just became Crete or something some higher powers had decided, but it wasn't specially planned. We hadn't had a holiday in our family for 15 years, so the youngest of our children had no idea what a holiday was. But now it had to be, and the choice quickly fell on Crete, as it was here that there was a cheap discount trip that we could use.

When I stepped off the plane in Chania, I was met with a very strange feeling, in addition to a burning heat. It felt very familiar and like I had come home, even though I had never been anywhere near anything Greek before. So when we returned home to Denmark after a week's holiday, it was only a few days before we had booked another trip there, a few weeks later. It has been like that ever since, despite the fact that I am actually in Crete several times a year and have also lived there for half a year. But as soon as I get back, there is an uncontrollable longing to get down there again. Well, I will probably touch on that several times in the future on this blog.

Right now it's about telling that I will come up with a lot of small everyday stories, tales, travelogues, maybe a few recipes and much more on this blog. In which direction it goes and where we end up I have no idea. For now, I'm having a hard time knowing where to start.

But I can say this much that every other Friday there will be a new post here on the blog and the next post will come on September 21. I can already reveal what it will be about, because it will be a bit about our first trip with Elena's Group Travel to Crete, where I will be a tour guide and where we will go out and see a whole lot that is somewhat outside what you normally experience as a tourist. This is what I personally find the most exciting, so I hope my guests think so too.

And then I want to wish everyone Kaló mina (Good month)

Michael Hall
