Greek brandy

If you have visited fantastic Greece, you have probably been offered a glass of Greek alcohol. The Greeks are happy to celebrate any festive occasion with Greek spirits, and the Greek brandy is particularly popular. There are several different brandy wines and liqueurs, which the Greek population is very fond of. Ouzo – Greece's national drink

Maybe you tried ouzo on your holiday to Greece? Ouzo is a brandy that is believed to date all the way back to Ancient Greece. It is a real classic among the Greeks, and therefore it is also the Greek national drink. Ouzo has a knack for bringing people together, and the drink is enjoyed across social strata. Today, ouzo is produced in large copper kettles, and many places in Greece produce the spicy drink.

The strong and spicy taste comes from spices such as anise, coriander, mint and mastic. The classic ouzo contains 40% alcohol, and is usually enjoyed in a tall glass with a piece of ice or a little water - this gives the clear drink a white colour.

Enjoy a Raki or liqueur from Elenas

Many Danes have become acquainted with raki on a trip to Crete. The Greek brandy is locally called Tsikoudia in Crete, while in the rest of Greece it is called Tsipouro. Raki typically consists of 40% alcohol or more, and it can have slightly fruity flavor notes because it is distilled from grapes from the residual production of wine. You can also try a Rakomelo, which is raki with a touch of honey, if you want a little more sweetness in the drink.
