Mpogiatzopytharo, yes, that is actually its name and it is probably only Greeks themselves who can pronounce the name correctly of this giant Minoan jar. It is a composite jar with a Pithari as the base structure on this 120 cm high decorative object. It is one of those types of pots that didn't need planting at all, but in itself stands almost like a sculpture. It takes a whole day at the turning wheel to produce a jar like this and it takes 2 men to carry it to and from the kiln. If you want a jar that not many others have as a decoration in the garden or in the home, Mpogiatzopytharo is the name (and then you have to see if you can learn to pronounce it correctly.
All Minoan jars are frost-proof and handmade in Heraklion, Crete. Only bio-fuel (wood) is used for the burning, just as it has been done for millennia. Therefore, there are no 2 jars that are exactly alike, either in design or firing, and the specified sizes are not 100% accurate.
The dimensions of this magnificent jar are 120 cm high and a diameter of 65 cm
